Friends You Love Blog Hop - Week 1

FriendsYouLove

This month is about building friendships and making our existing friendships stronger...We challenge you to dig into your "followers" list and find one follower you don't know well (not a loyal commenting person) and reach out to them and ask them to do a guest post on YOUR blog. Then, come back and link up with your guest post and have your new friend (guest poster) link up as well!

This week, I am happy to feature Debbie at My Everyday Journey.  I met Debbie a few months back when she commented on my About Me posts detailing how I became an only parent.  I highly recommend checking out Debbie and My Everyday Journey after reading her post here.  She is relatively new to Blognia, but I hope she sticks around for a long while!

***********

There is something special about my girlfriends. They have shared some of the most pivotal moments in my life - both good and bad. When I got married, my friend and roommate sang at my wedding. When my child was born, my closest friends came to hold him in the hospital and share in my joy. When I was dealing with post-partum depression I remember my friend sharing some of her own post-partum issues and helping me feel not quite so crazy. When I first found out that my husband was cheating on me, I confided in my hairdresser and friend of almost 15 years. When I decided to divorce my husband and my entire life was falling apart, I remember my best friend (and sister), dropping everything to drive five hours to be with me. When I decided to participate in a 100-mile bike ride, my closest friends unselfishly volunteered their time to watch my child while I trained.

I am grateful to have friends who I can call on at any time of the day or night and know they will be there. I am grateful to have friends who I can call to after months or years of not talking and pick up right where we left off. I am also grateful that I can be this kind of friend for others as well. But I know that I am not alone. Many women express the importance of female friendships and there are an abundance of articles and studies that have explored this issue. According to these articles, my female friends not only fill an emotional need, but they may actually improve my health! Now THIS is a concept I can get behind.

The bottom line is that I think we all know the important role that friendships play in our lives. Unfortunately, we often neglect these very friends when we need them the most. So the next time you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, anxious...reach out to a friend. She is bound to make you feel better! And remember, "Friends are the family we choose for ourselves." I certainly didn't realize the importance of having girlfriends until recently in life. I knew it was important but never quite grasped just HOW important!

A fantastic way to celebrate friendship and the perfect post to kick off the friendship blog hop!

Great post. I have a ton of friends that I only see or talk to a couple of times a year but when we get together its just like ten years ago. Love that!
