Oh, Des Moines, I Won't Miss You

Q: What do you get when you mix 3.5 hours in a car, 6 adults, some MMA, and booze?

A: An annoyed mama that couldn't wait to get back home.

This image is what I was subjected to for all of Saturday night.  I know what you're thinking...  Buff men + That One Mom = Hella Good Time....  NO!  Seriously, I could think of 875 OTHER things I would enjoy doing on a night off of work.  But for the love of The Man, I drove 3.5 hours to Des Moines (Did I mention I had driven 6.5 hours the day prior?) with two other couples to see his friend fight in an MMC Championship fight.

Honestly, I don't really get the whole mixed martial arts thing.  I truly thought that the first rule of Fight Club was you don't talk about Fight Club.  The best I can tell, someone talked about Fight Club, put them in a cage, and sold tickets.  The guys, on the other hand, had a blast.  There was a whole lot of hooting and hollering along with yelling and jeering.  Most fights were pretty one-sided, but a couple had to be decided by judges.  That was confusing.  At no point did I see points being given for different moves like in wrestling or sparring, but at the end, judges declared a winner.

Sadly, The Man's friend lost his fight, but was excited that his opponent requested a rematch.

Fortunately, the friends slept the majority of the ride home and last night I was able to sleep in my own bed!  Yay!

So, I have to say, I love cage fighting. Next time, just send me the ticket and I'll take your place...don't worry...the boys won't notice.

I actually enjoy MMA fights- we usually host a Fight Night party at our house (there's one coming up!). But, I know most of our guy friends' girfriends are bored to death when they tag along. I guess it helps that I grew up with brothers and no sisters!

LOL about the Fight Club referance. It's sounds like watching hockey down here. People just like watching fights and some arbitrary rules are used to make it look official.

OH I won't let my son see this he would DIE. He loves MMA.. My nephew all 6 ft 8 inches of him thougt he wanted to do this kind of fighting. Did I mention he is skinny as a bean pole and although his height makes him harder to hit, get his legs out from under him and it's an instant win. He came home after a "practice" with cauliflower ear, black eye, swollen jaw umm yeah and the guy was going EASY on him...

Boys and their fight club. I am subject to this for UFC and hockey playoffs.

Yeah, that's love. Ugh. I can relate, having been to more car shows than needed in five lifetimes.

Boys and their toys/games. You are a keeper for sure! Fight Club definitely takes me back. Saw that in the theater with Hubs when we were dating. Ugh!!!

Glad it's over and you got to sleep in your own bed!
