Weigh In Wednesday - Week 5

Here I am, 5 weeks into my weight loss challenge.  I'm not so happy, either.  Week 1 I went up 1 pound, Week 2 I was down 1, Week 3 I was down 1 more. Week 4 broke my heart.  I lost nothing, gained nothing.  I have been feeling really discouraged.

My eating habits have changed, and most days I eat very well.  The Lose It! application on my iTouch says in order to lose 2 pounds per week I need to eat 1140 calories daily.  Of course, that number increases if I exercise.

Work has been my most challenging eating enviornment.  I mean, really... I work in a restaurant with a scratch kitchen.  And the best ranch dressing known to man!  I splurged at the dinner following my friend Chuck's funeral and The Godmother's 50th, but other than that, I've been doing well.  I haven't had any soda in almost 4 weeks! And I drink at least a gallon of water a day.

Working out has been sporadic at best.  The Man got a gym membership for me and I've been using that when there is time.  Otherwise, I have been getting my ass kicked bt Jillian Michaels a minimum of 3 times a week.  (I think she wants me to punch her.  Just sayin'...)

So like I said, here I am, Week 5.  I stepped on the scale and it says I am down 2.9 pounds.  (I think the Wii is lying, I don't feel like I've lost anything.  I feel like I've gained, if anything. But I'll take it.)  In 5 weeks, I have lost 3.9 pounds.  It's a far cry from my goal of 2 pounds per week, but I will take it.  I am still going to aim for my total weight loss goal at the end of May....  Change takes time, right?

It must be so much harder for you working in that kitchen! If I was around food all day long with it right in my face, I'd have a terrible time staying on track.

Good for you for losing that 2.9 pounds, hell that's almost 3 in total. I like to picture a block of one pound butter and that makes me feel like losing one pound is a lot!

Keep up the great work, you're on the right track!

Yeah, it's pretty impressive that you work at a restaurant and are able to even think about losing weight.

It's a slow battle...but worth it in the end, right?

Realistically you should aim for a loss of 1 pound a week. Thats the healthy way to do it. Just keep at it! You'll get there eventually!

If you're doing it slow, you're doing it right. I believe that.

You are down at least Momma!

1140? Wow that's low. You shouldn't be going below 1200 calories a day. I would suggest staying in the 12-1600 range. You need at least 30 minutes of moderate activity daily with and increase of 30 minutes every week unil you reach 2 1/2 hours.

Change does take time and it sounds like you are doing so many things right. You're doing great! Hang in there.

Did you weigh yourself after you drank all that water or right after you peed? That would make a huge difference. I always get on the Wii first thing in the morning after peeing. If I get on in the afternoon it's about 4lbs more.

1140 calories just sucks. I've tried it too and although I lost weight, I was pretty miserable.
Good luck!

I know how you feel. My food intake has changed and I am working out like a fien, yet the scales says that I haven't lost anything. I do feel better, so, do what you can to feel better and the scale will catch up someday!

Weight loss takes that commitment, and patience. Looks like you have the commitment down.....just stick with it, and you'll be happy with the results. Good job with your 3.9!!! Way to go!

I think the work environment is working against you....and you may find that increasing the exercise will produce more results. I know it's hard to find the time and energy to do it, but it's the best way. You're taking in calories, but you also need to expend a lot through rigorous exercise (perhaps more than 3x/week) to see the kind of results you want. You said it was "sporadic," so not entirely sure if that means consistent or not, or how long you work out for, etc...

Regardless, it speaks volumes that you are still at it and staying motivated. You can do it! Be patient and keep up the good work!
