Sadly, I see my home turning into a scene from my childhood. Everywhere I turn, there are piles. I have piles of bills to pay, piles of bills that are paid, piles of Girl Scout stuff, piles of Cub Scout stuff, piles of handouts from The Girl's teacher, piles of handouts from The Boy's teacher, piles of catalogs I'd like to order things from.... Ahhhhh! There are piles EVERYWHERE!
I've followed the Flylady's tips, read books about de-cluttering and simplifying, but I just can't seem to shake this terrible habit instilled upon me by my mother!
I've resolved that my problem is easily solved by real estate. I just need to buy a house with a mud room, a den, and a basement! All of my problems would be solved! The mud room would house all of the jackets, shoes, boots, bookbags, and handbags haphazardly thrown around my house. The den would be a God send! I could have a place to keep my computer (not the corner of my bedroom!), a place to pay bills (not the kitchen table), and a place for a file cabinet (so there wouldn't be piles of bills everywhere)! It would be GLORIOUS! And a basement, a basement would house all of the crap the kids have neglected to relegate to their rooms... Oh, to dream...
Ahhh, visions of dens floating in my head!
And what's this?!?! A place to keep coats and shoes?! B-E-A-UTIFUL!
What!?!?!? A living room not taken over by the kids' crap!!! It's a Christmas Miracle!
Well, a girl can dream, right? Without a healthy fantasy life, what would I have?

I always think that- if I only had more space...
But then I realize the amount of crap I have would probably just expand to fit the space. And then I would have more areas I'd have to clean. I'm pretty good at killing my fantasies, lol.
ugh..pack rat...but then I have totes of things I cant get rid of hidden in the garage. My Hub said the only thing intended to go in the garage are the vehicles....Ours looks clean, it is just stacked with totes hiding everything from baby clothes to my artwork.
Somehow I've gotten better with piles. My Mom was all about piles of crap every where. I still can not seem to get rid of having one pile somewhere though.
A house is like a purse to me. No matter what the size.....it always ends up stuffed with useless junk. It's hopeless!!
Oh, I totally hear ya on the "pack rat" thing. I don't remember the last time I could actually park in my garage from all the stuff in there that I promise myself I will bring in my house, but there just isnt enough room.
I dream about having a house that looks like Martha Stewart live there as well.... but, I've decided to embrace my dysfuction and roll with it.
Nancy, I love your comment above. My thoughts exactly!!!
Another great post, Darlin!!!
I "heart" you.

I share your dream, and it is a wonderful one. We'll both get there one day :).
It's a nice dream, but then you suddenly realize that cleaning the larger space is a pain in the butt.
How old are your kids? If they are older than 3ish, then you need to put them to work. ;)
@ Candice - hahaha! They are 9 and 10. They have chores, but it's still a battle to get them to participate in housekeeping... That's a whole other Oprah...
i feel the same way - if i had a basement to put all of my kids toys my house would gain another 1000 sq feet! thanks for stopping by the crib!
While you're dreaming up the perfect house, be sure to include a craft room. I just spent the last hour peeling mod podge off everything I own. I need a contained area and a hazmat suit the next time I try to craft. My hair is stuck together.
DG, duely noted.
Hi! great post! i have piles everywhere too! You cracked me up big time!! I thought I was the only one!
Piles on top of piles. I moved into a house this year after being cramped in a small apartment for the last 5. The house is twice the square footage-literally-of the apartment, so you would think I would have a TON of empty space, or very uncrowded rooms. Oddly enough, the stuff I had crammed into the packed apartment is just enough to make the twice-the-size house full an I have no room for new piles of stuff! So the house is now getting more cramped with every single piece of mail brought in. It's frustrating that I try so hard to not be a packrat but there's so much I need to keep!!!
