Stupid Cars

This is what my car was doing on Thursday morning.

That, my friends, is coolant.  If you can't tell, my car appears to be pissing it.  This symptom caused my car to overheat on a 12 block roundtrip drive to and from dropping my monsters off at school.  Did I mention it was -4 degrees?  I barely got the car home.  *frustrated panda*

I got the car to a shop on Friday and was able to rent a car for $16.49 a day + tax.  Pretty sweet.

I got a call from the shop on Monday morning.  They need to flush my cooling system and replace the thermostat.  All said and done, including the tow, I'm out about $375.  Pretty sweet.  They dropped my car off at work for me last night.  Yay!

Around 1:30 am, I go out to my car.  Apparently it's not so fixed.  My car needs a new engine.  *sad panda*  The kicker, the same rental car I paid $16.49 a day for...  It's going to cost me $33.49 a day.  The. Exact. Same. Car.  OH!  But if I hadn't returned it yesterday, I would still be paying the $16.49.  Grrrrrr.

Oh I have had the EXACT same thing happen to me. Last year I had rented a car for two weeks at the $16 rate. I turned it in picked up my van only to have something with the suspension need fixed. I tried to rent the car again and they wanted to charge me $40 a day for the same car.

Gee Golly, that really sucks the big one honey! I wish I could help. I could really work on convincing your kiddos to walk to school. Do ya think they will listen to me?

I replaced my engine in my car and it sucks as well as expensive. Sad to hear you got screwed by the rental agency.

wait hold on .. so basically you lost your coolant which of course caused the car to overheat. Themechanic was like ohh we can fix it did the HALF job got you arental for the cheap and NOW your motor needs repaired.. Ok as a grease monkey daughter this is for all the ladies and you. ANYTIME your car loses coolant or water and they hand you flush the system and thermostat INSIST theycheck the engine block because when you don't have coolant or water in the engine to coll it the head gasket can blow and crack the block.. and it doesn't take much. An honest mechanic would have done that from the start...

I hate car drama, so sorry you're dealing with this! I would try to get the same rental price, throw a minor fit if you have to (don't be rude or angry just be firm!).

This is why I lease. I can give the damn thing back right when the warranty is up. :)

Time to take it to a new mechanic. LAME. I'd totally protest the car company and speak to a manager about the price. That's freakin ridiculous.

Oh that would piss me off so bad! Lol...

I feel your car pain---mine's been in the shop for 10 days now and I have a rental to the tune of $40 ish per day (had to get something bigger to fit two giant carseats, ugh). I am so mad. And last night I had a nightmare that I wrecked the rental car (the reason my car is in the shop is b/c I hit a parked car last week. Totally my fault. And I suck). Ugh.

As my mother used to say "Sometimes you just can't win for losing". It took me years and two divorces to figure out what the heck she meant by that.

Hope things get fixed soon.

Me and cars have a small war going on. Or maybe it's me and my repair shop... still deciding. Is it wrong that I can identify 4 different types of liquid that drip from my car?

Feeling your pain... feeling your pain.

I hate to be political my first time here, but this makes me think everyone should have the right to free car-health insurance, too! haha I can't imagine where I would pull that kind of money from if that happened to us. Yikes!! Good luck.
